Overview
Pediatric therapy is a complex field of healthcare. There are many moving components that must be considered prior to providing services.
One aspect that can have a major impact on the care provided is the family. In order to provide pediatric patients with safe and effective therapy, it is essential to consider the family as vital members of the team.
The family partnership framework is a program that can be implemented to help families:
- Set goals
- Make a plan
- Advocate for their family and child
This framework helps caregivers be equal partners in planning and implementing healthcare programming, as well as increases collaboration between service providers.
Goals of a family partnership framework:
- Assist the family with the goal-planning process so they can set a goal that is realistic to the child’s current skill level and that addresses their overall concerns
- Collaborate with the family to ensure they feel like the chosen goal is relevant to improving the child’s quality of life
- Provide the family with support so that they remain invested in the process of working together with the healthcare team
- Help the family recognize how much of an impact they can make on the child’s success
- Allow the family to self-determine which services or other supports are important in addressing their goals
Utilizing a collaboration-focused and strength-based approach, participants in this session will learn the core aspects of developing an interdisciplinary care pathway including:
- Partnering with families - helping families select services that meet their needs
- Enhancing collaboration between all service providers
- Ensuring services are individualized and proactive, supporting the evolving needs of each family
