Just Breathe 101: The Diaphragm in Critical Care

Overview:

This online course by Debra Dent, is a specific course dealing with the diaphragm in a critical care setting. 

Neurological compromise, traumatic injury, and congenital defects will be presented.  A detailed examination of the phrenic nerve and the neurological compromises of the diaphragm is given.  Numerous acquired defects of the diaphragm and their treatments are reviewed in detail.  Understanding how the diaphragm will adapt to prolonged ventilation (VIDD) and the consequences that result is examined.  There are reviews of various current studies regarding early mobilization in the ICU for the prevention and treatment of Intensive Care Unit Acquired Weakness.
