Overview
The biopsychosocial model (BPS), a popular method of patient care, was first introduced in 1977 by George Engel. This model proposed that to understand a person’s medical condition, the clinician must consider not only the biological factors, but also the psychological and social factors.
The BPS model is increasingly supported by the literature as an important part of clinical practice and is often taught during professional training. However, research has suggested that the model has been misinterpreted as is a wide range of application of the BPS model in clinical practice.
In this online course Ben Cormack brings us back to the basics. He discusses what the BPS model truly is and provides practical ways of applying it into practice.
