Welcome to PME Certification
We created the Pain Made Easy (PME) course to help you re-focus the care you provide for clients with stubborn or persistent symptoms. In these clients, a lack of progress, the persistence of symptoms, and the inability of medical imaging and interventions to demonstrate a structure at fault will create an environment of frustration, anxiety, passivity and even mistrust of the medical process. With this in mind, we created this program to provide structure to many familiar strategies that you may already be using successfully with some of your clients.
Typical practitioner skills are often well placed in the acute to subacute phases of injury. They are directed at the 'bio' portion of the biopsychosocial model of pain. Many clients will transition from a primarily bio presentation toward a more 'psycho' and 'social' bias as symptoms persist. When this happens, there is a discretely different set of processes responsible for perpetuating their symptoms. Within this course, we will describe the client presentation you may observe during this transition and steps that you can take to avoid an ongoing perpetuation of symptoms.
You will likely see a familiar presentation in our symptom descriptions and your 'tough' clients. This course will challenge you to consider ways to change your approach when this occurs. The PME program is a client-specific, linearly progressive program utilizing client education sheets that you can use in clinic to provide a consistent strategy to direct your essential interventions.
In each of the upcoming ten modules, you will find the following:
- A Client Handout that is downloadable and printable is intended to be used with your clients.
- An Instructor Points printable resource that emphasizes key talking points for each worksheet. This sheet functions as a 'cheat sheet' to cue you when you are educating your clients.
- A Therapist Education Video discussing how and when to use the handout with your clients.
- A Client Education Video that you may show to your clients to educate them about the contents of the handout.
